PeeWee Drama, Ages 3-6 years

Description:
A fun-filled physical romp through our favorite books. Children are encouraged to bring in favorite stories. After a warm up we read a story and then working together, use creative, often silly props and costume pieces to act out our own version. This class is equal parts child and teacher driven.

Battle Chess, Ages 6-8 years

Description: Based on Harry Potter’s life-size chess game this class combines wands, magic, and chess skills. Children create new scenarios based on their favorite magical characters (Harry Potter or others) and work with the instructor to choreograph their own magical battles.

Stage Combat, Harry Potter Edition, Ages 9-12 years,

Description: We are trading in our swords and light sabers for wands, open hand, spells and falls. Young wizards learn to battle the forces of evil and develop an audience interactive story set between the known Harry Potter adventures.

Ten-Twenty, Ages 7-12 years

Description: In the great tradition of the Chicago Neo-Futurists we will improvise and play our way into developing ten short plays and monologues that will be performed in twenty minutes. The audience will pick the order in an interactive performance. Ten -n- Twenty is good fun and promotes development of basic performance skills, group focus and team work.

Performance Ensemble- Dracula Project - Part One

Description: This is first session of a two session investigation and performance of a Bram Stoker’s, Dracula. Aspiring performers of all stripes are invited to join in the study and adaptation of this complex, exciting and enduring literary work. In Part One of the Dracula Project students will study the novel as a literary work in the context of its period. We will read and discuss the book, the period, and the phenomena of vampires and other supernatural creatures in the context of Victorian society. We will work particularly on movement and voice including British and several American dialects while we continue to improve our full array of performance skills. We will extract the elements we find most exciting from this process and create a new adaptation including dialogue, music, dance and more. We will also work together to develop and begin the creation of set and costume design. All participants will both perform and work on technical elements. In Part two of The Dracula Project (Feb-April) we will rehearse and perform our new Dracula.
